January's Books

I started off the New Year with a new series I had heard about.  I like to chat about books with my sister because she actually goes out and buys them and reads current titles.  I on the other hand, having to live within a family budget, borrow books, buy them at garage sales and download them for the ereader and audiobook apps on my phone.

I listened to the George RR Martin series A Song of Ice and Fire books 1-4
  1. A Game of Thrones
  2. A Clash of Kings
  3. A Storm of Swords
  4. A Feast of Crows
as well as the two short prequels
  1. Hedge Knight
  2. Sworn Sword
I am loving this series!  And the audio versions I have listened to have been great!  I love it when a reader does a fantastic job with the book.  I get lost in the audio versions just as much as I do with a hard copy.  I get swept up into the castle life, can envision the cold and snow, the battles and the voyages.

Mr. Martin has done a marvelous job of creating a world that while not real, is close enough that we can put ourselves into it.  The characters, whether hero, villain or both, have character traits we can identify with.  Each hero has a dark side and each villain has a soft side.  Can't wait to download book 5 and lose myself again!

As well, I have listened to James Patterson's 4 Blind Mice.  I am slowly working my way through his entire bibliography - I just love his work but I don't enjoy reading his books back to back to back, I need to throw a couple books by different authors in between.
